TENS

TENS for chronic pain

Are you experiencing long-term pain and have previous treatments been insufficient? Then TENS treatment may be suitable.

TENS is a form of pain treatment that you can use independently at home. At Fysio Roode, we will guide you in setting up and safely using the device.

What is TENS?

TENS stands for Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation. Light electrical stimuli are delivered to the skin via electrodes.

The treatment can be prescribed by an anesthesiologist or a pain clinic specialist as part of pain management for chronic pain.

The device is small, portable, and easy to use.

How does TENS work?

Via small electrodes on the skin, the device delivers electrical impulses to the area requiring treatment. The intensity of these impulses is adjustable and tailored to your situation.

TENS can contribute to:

  • reducing pain stimuli
  • muscle relaxation
  • The stimulation of the body's own pain-relieving processes

The effect varies from person to person. Therefore, a trial period is often used first to assess whether TENS is suitable for you.

How we help you

Device usage guidance

When you have a referral from the anesthesiologist or pain clinic, we will help you start your treatment.

After delivery of the device, we will schedule an intake with a physical therapist who specializes in TENS. During this appointment, you will receive an explanation about:

  • the use of the device
  • placing the electrodes
  • the correct settings
  • Safe and independent application at home

First, experience if it suits you

The device is often made temporarily available first, so you can experience what effect the treatment has on your complaints.
